Russian Jet-Powered Drone Strikes Prometey Grain Elevator in Mykolaiv

A Prometey grain elevator in the city of Mykolaiv sustained extensive damage in a Russian jet-powered drone attack. At around 6:30 a.m. on September 9, the Russian UAV struck the facility’s production infrastructure directly.

Just one day earlier, on September 8, a reconnaissance drone had been spotted flying over the company’s grain elevators throughout the day. The following morning, the strike occurred.

Prometey believes that this sequence of events suggests that the facility had been surveyed in advance and that the attack on civilian agricultural infrastructure was deliberate and pre-planned.

This time, the target was not merely an individual warehouse or building. An entire production complex required for receiving, storing, drying, and dispatching grain was damaged.

The strike damaged a grain storage facility, a grain dryer, warehouses, a truck weighbridge, and the laboratory building. The company’s fleet of agricultural machinery also sustained damage.

Behind every item on this list lies more than just metal, concrete, or equipment. Together, they form a single production system that took years to build: the weighbridge used daily by grain trucks, the laboratory where grain quality is assessed, and the dryer without which the harvest cannot be prepared for storage.

Within seconds, part of this infrastructure was reduced to twisted wreckage.

No Prometey employees were injured in the attack.

“Today is a very difficult day for us. First and foremost, I am grateful that all our people are alive. When you receive news like this, everything else ceases to matter for a while. But then you begin to comprehend the scale of what has happened. The damage war inflicts on businesses cannot be measured solely by the value of the property destroyed. It also means lost investment, disrupted operations, the people who come here to work every day, and the partners and farmers who rely on us.

It is especially painful to realize that this is already the second strike on Prometey’s production facilities within a short period of time. Russian drones previously attacked our Lebedyn grain elevator in the Sumy region, where part of the facility’s infrastructure was also destroyed. When civilian agricultural facilities are struck one after another, it is difficult to speak of coincidence.

But destroying our facilities does not mean stopping Prometey. We are staying in Ukraine, we continue to work, and we will rebuild what we have lost,” commented Rafael Goroyan, owner and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Prometey.

The company’s specialists are currently working at the site, documenting the damage and assessing the extent of the losses. Every destroyed or damaged facility will be formally recorded for legal and evidentiary purposes.

Russian aggression continues to target Ukraine’s agricultural sector — businesses that store harvests, provide employment, and support the country’s food security and resilience.
