Ukraine has been experiencing an abnormal heat wave all week. The southern region of Ukraine suffers the most. The production company PROMETEY, whose land areas are located in Mykolaiv region, is concerned that high temperatures and drought will negatively affect the sunflower harvest.
"The situation on the sunflower fields is very difficult. The heatwave that has spread across the country will have a negative impact on the crop.Sunflower does not grow at 30-32 degrees. Only a few hours in the morning and a few hours in the evening save the plant. During the day, sunflower simply burns at such high temperatures. And there is no rain. We are doing everything possible to save the future harvest, but the weather conditions are a hindrance", said Ilya Troitsky, chief agronomist at PRMETEY.
Forecasters predict that the heat will only increase next week. The maximum temperature will reach 37-42°C, which is 8-10°C higher than average. Rain is not expected either. Under such conditions, the sunflower crop may suffer significant losses.
