Prometey Agroholding signed a new financing agreement with a Swiss fund. The negotiations lasted almost a year. Under the terms of the agreement, Prometey receives new financing for trade operations without military risks - for the business the company conducts in Egypt. The terms are simple: every year Prometey pays a portion of the funds on the old debt. Thus, the new loan not only enables the company to operate, but also allows it to gradually pay off old obligations.
We are talking about the loan that the Swiss fund granted to Prometey five years ago. But after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, after part of the company was occupied and part was destroyed by long-range missiles, Prometey found itself on the verge of default. And since 2023, it has actually lost the ability to service its debt obligations. In these difficult circumstances, the company did not stop fighting. Negotiations were started with all creditors, including the Swiss fund, on debt restructuring and the possibility of providing new financing. The main idea that Prometey consistently conveyed to its partners was that without new funds the assets would be lost and the creditors would get nothing. But if the company is given the opportunity to work, it will be able to gradually give everything back.
This approach has finally been heard by the Swiss foundation. And now there are already the first results. In May 2025, Prometey has already paid 5% of the old loan and is servicing the interest on the new loan. This case is an example of healthy financial logic in a war. A lender that acts not according to a template, but taking into account realities, gets more in the end. And the business, which suffered not because of its own mistakes but because of the war, gets a chance to recover.
In parallel, the company continues to negotiate with other banks and funds. Prometey offers only safe deals, where financing is directed to activities outside Ukraine - in particular, in Egypt, where the company started business in 2022. Now it has its own office there and an excellent team. And in 2025 it received a government contract in Egypt. Therefore, financing of this particular sector of Prometey's business excludes the risks associated with the war in Ukraine and provides a transparent source of debt repayment. One of the last unfortunate episodes, which only emphasizes the complexity of the situation: one of the company's grain elevators was completely destroyed by an airplane bomb. It is impossible to restore it.
But despite these losses, Prometey does not stop. The case of Prometey's cooperation with a Swiss foundation is proof of this and deserves attention. This is a model that should be used by other banks and lenders, because joint solutions are not a compromise, but a way to win for all parties.
